Unveiling the Tales of Kanjivaram Silk Sarees with Muhurth

The Art of Zari: A Glimpse into the Glittering World of Muhurth’s Craftsmanship

At Muhurth, every weave tells a story, and at the heart of these stories is the intricate art of Zari. This time-honoured technique, which has adorned royalty and nobility for centuries, continues to be a symbol of opulence and grandeur. But not all Zari is created equal. Understanding the different types of Zari and the extensive craftsmanship involved in creating them is key to appreciating the true value of our exquisite Kanjivaram silk sarees. At Muhurth, our legacy in the world of Kanjivaram silk sarees is not just about tradition; it's about preserving and elevating the age-old art of Zari weaving.

Pure Zari: The Gold Standard of Kanjivaram Craftsmanship

Pure Zari represents a pinnacle of luxury. At its core, Pure Zari is crafted with a silk yarn base, which is then wrapped in silver and plated with gold. This process, steeped in tradition, results in Zari that exudes purest gold tone that appeals real and subtle.

The gold content in Pure Zari can range, typically starting from 3 grams (3g) per mark and going above, depending on the requirement. The incorporation of silver and copper in the blend enhances its durability while maintaining the lustrous appearance that Pure Zari is renowned for. This type of Zari is often reserved for the most exquisite and ceremonial sarees, where nothing but the best will suffice.

Half Fine Zari: The Perfect Blend of Tradition and Affordability

For those who seek the charm of Pure Zari but with a more accessible price point, Half Fine Zari is the ideal choice. This Zari also begins with a silk core, but the process of silver spinning and gold plating is slightly modified to balance cost and luxury. While it mimics the look and feel of Pure Zari, Half Fine Zari offers a more economical option. Like mentioned before, in our Half fine Zari quality, the core remains true to its silk foundation, while the silver is replaced with copper and the gold content is uncompromised. Specifically, the half fine zari quality we use is nothing but 2gram zari , which contains 0.02%(2gm) gold per kilogram of copper. It’s perfect for sarees that are meant to be worn at weddings and festive occasions, where the wearer still desires a touch of opulence.

Silver Zari: The Subtle Luxury

Silver Zari is available in two distinct varieties: Pure Silver Zari and Half Fine Silver Zari.

1. Pure Silver Zari: In this variety, pure silver is used over a silk base. This Zari is known for its unparalleled brightness and natural silver finish, making it a luxurious choice for those who appreciate subtle elegance.

2. Half Fine Silver Zari: This variety also starts with a silk core but uses elements like copper or German silver, which are then plated like silver. The result is a Zari that retains the natural silver finish but at a more accessible price point, offering a perfect balance of luxury and affordability.

Silk Fast Zari: Quality and Affordability Combined

Silk Fast Zari offers a balance between luxury and accessibility, as this variety uses a pure silk core wrapped with a blend of copper and a small percentage of silver, typically ranging between 0.2% and 0.3%. The result is a Zari that maintains the classic sheen and durability of more expensive varieties while being more affordable.

Tested Zari: A More Affordable Alternative, But Not for Muhurth

Tested Zari, also known as Imitation Zari, represents a more artificial approach to Zari-making. It typically uses a core made of polyester, viscose, or nylon, which is then coated with a metallic layer—often aluminium or a similar material. While this Zari may resemble traditional Zari in appearance, it lacks the quality and longevity of genuine silk and metal-wrapped varieties. Due to its lower quality and artificial composition, Muhurth does not use Tested Zari in any of our products, as it does not align with our commitment to authenticity and craftsmanship. Instead, we focus on Zari that upholds the rich heritage of Kanjivaram, ensuring that our customers receive only the finest quality.
