Time Honoured: To honour your time in these sarees, we spent ours.

The Time Honoured collection celebrates the enduring artistry of traditional Kanjivaram silk weaving, bringing together handwoven sarees created with patience, precision and exceptional attention to detail. Each saree reflects time-tested techniques and the depth of craftsmanship that has shaped Kanjivaram silk for generations.

Some designs cannot be rushed. Rich zari brocades, Tissue, Korvai borders, Vaira Oosi, classic checks, traditional motifs and elaborate pallus require extended time on the loom, where every thread is placed with care and intention. The sarees in this collection represent a slower and more considered approach to handwoven Kanjivaram silk.

At Muhurth, the Time Honoured collection brings together sarees where the time spent in weaving becomes part of their character. Created for weddings, bridal trousseaus, festive celebrations and meaningful occasions, each saree reflects the richness and enduring beauty of handwoven Kanjivaram silk.

FAQs – Time Honoured Collection

1. What makes the Time Honoured Kanjivaram saree collection special?

The Time Honoured collection brings together handwoven Kanjivaram silk sarees that require greater time and precision on the loom. Intricate zari brocades, Korvai borders, Vaira Oosi, Tissue weaving and detailed motifs are among the techniques and elements represented in this collection.

2. How long does it take to weave a Kanjivaram silk saree?

The weaving time depends on the design and technique. Once the loom is prepared, a traditional Korvai Kanjivaram with buttas or a single-shuttle brocade weave can take around six days on the loom. More intricate techniques such as double-nada brocade, Meenakari, Vaira Oosi, Tissue and Rangkat can require approximately 15 to 45 days of weaving.

3. What makes a pure Kanjivaram silk saree?

A Kanjivaram silk saree is defined by the quality of its silk, the zari used and the craftsmanship involved in its weaving. At Muhurth, our sarees are woven with 100% pure mulberry silk, with the zari specification clearly stated for each saree. The combination of fine silk, authentic zari and traditional handweaving gives Kanjivaram its distinctive richness and longevity.

4. What designs are commonly found in Kanjivaram silk sarees?

Kanjivaram design draws from a rich visual vocabulary that includes temple architecture, traditional motifs, flora, fauna, checks, stripes and geometric layouts. At Muhurth, these classical structures are also interpreted through motifs such as roses, tulips, pine, parrots and other contemporary influences, while remaining rooted in the discipline of Kanjivaram weaving.

5. Which Kanjivaram silk saree is suitable for a wedding?

For weddings, many choose Kanjivarams with rich zari, traditional Korvai borders, elaborate pallus and striking colour combinations. The choice ultimately depends on the wearer's personal style, the occasion and the kind of presence she wishes the saree to have. Sarees woven with pure silk, authentic zari and intricate techniques are especially valued for their richness and longevity.

6. What makes a handwoven Kanjivaram silk saree unique?

A handwoven Kanjivaram carries the individual character of the artisan and the loom. Subtle variations in silk texture, motifs and the meeting points of a Korvai border are natural expressions of handweaving. These nuances give each saree its own character and distinguish it from mechanically produced fabric.

7. Do the sarees in the Time Honoured collection come with a blouse piece?

Yes. All sarees in the Time Honoured collection come with a matching blouse piece designed to complement the saree's colours, weave and zari work.

8. How should a pure Kanjivaram silk saree be cared for?

Air the saree after use before storing it in a breathable cotton cloth. Refolding it periodically helps prevent prolonged stress along the same crease lines, particularly where zari is present. For more detailed guidance, refer to our Kanjivaram silk saree care guide.
